A few months back, I brought the new Xbox One and since then I am on cloud nine. It has been one of the best times I have spent with my family and friends. The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray & 4K video streaming is mind-blowing and the quality of the games has reached a whole new level of finesse. My usual setup would be to plug in my Plantronics – RIG 400HX Xbox wireless headphones to the game box and go on a marathon of Need for Speed all weekend.
Usually, my wired headset with DOLBY stereo was more than sufficient for the sound effects till I got the new Plantronics – RIG 800LX SE Wireless Gaming Headset with Dolby Atmos on my birthday. It was a gift from my family and though I must say my loyal wired headset is gathering dust now, the gaming experience has taken the feel of euphoria with the new wireless cans. And did I mention the battery life is awesome!! This made me dabble more on the internet to find out the types of wireless options available for gaming. Here’s what I found:
Plantronics – RIG 800LX SE Wireless Gaming Headset with Dolby Atmos
Just like the wired RIG 400HX headset I have, this beautiful pair of sound cans is its wireless counterpart. The sound signature is balanced and largely neutral and resonating chambers. Soundstage and imaging are excellent and there are resonating bass tubes built into the ear cups. This gives more of a premium feel like that of an expensive headset and as an audiophile I find the mids and highs tuned in a pleasing way with nice gentle bumps of bass that does not crush the detail of the midrange.
As far as looks and comfort goes, this headset has oval-shaped earcups with big, deep and cushy padding that fits snuggly over my ears. Though it has an all-plastic build feel to it, the frame is equitably solid and feels super comfortable. The wireless performance is great – operating even at 40 feet and the battery lasts up to 24 hours. There are three EQ modes and it can be toggled with a button on the bottom of the right ear cup. The mic has a natural tone and does a decent job at canceling background noise too. For beginners, this comes as highly recommended at a decent price.

The comfort of the cans is extremely good as it is made from a soft set of fabric ear cups with plenty of breathing room. The elegant headset highlights the small details of sound and can be great for clear sound that has deep undertones. The sound remains crisp and provides deep satisfaction while playing a high octane games like Starwars Battlefront II or Need for Speed. Priced at $150, these premium cans prove to be an excellent midrange wireless contender with respect to the brands available in the market.

As far as the look and feel goes it is a well-made headset. Moderately heavy, sturdy with comfortable and soft synthetic leather and memory foam earcups the headset scores well with the gamer genre. However, one drawback is that it has lots of buttons that are sensitive, on the earcups, which proves to be annoying at times when accidentally touched.
